Today we did Geocaching as a field trip for the flight program's ground school. We first had to divide the group--I was with Bo Na '12 and Donovan Farmer '12. We struggled with using the GPS at first and we had to get help from Sean Knick '12.
Our first task was to find the object and the hint was "When Humans are gone." the location was near Wal-Mart and it wasn’t really hard to find because it was open space and there were little obstacles so it took about five minute to find the object.
Our next objective was to find the objective in "The Fish’n Hole." I didn’t like this because it was near the creek and we actually had to go into the woods and everybody, including other groups was struggling to find it because there were many more obstacle. The weather wasn’t really helping out either because it was humid and hot. Everyone was irritated and we were blocked by the water and weren’t able to pass it, so we had to find a way to get across because we went the wrong way. Some of our brave classmate cross the water and searched for the objective, but they failed, which gave our group enough time to find the bridge and catch up with the groups ahead of us.
This wasn’t it because we still had difficulties finding the object and we had to wander around the forest. We were all able to find the location through the GPS and compass; however we weren’t still able to locate the objective.
Finally, we were able to find the objective--it was hiding in the tree! It was found by Thomas Abell '13. I think the person who hid this objective wanted us to not find it because it was middle of the tree and that tree was located in the middle of tall grass. This was most difficult. However after I found it, I was pretty happy our group found it. As for the other groups who were searching for this objective--we wanted to slow them down, so we hid this objective in harder place.
Our next objective was located at "Wash ME!" As I expected, it was located at the car wash and we believed that it was easy to find because our GPS was ready and it was almost open space like our first objective. However, it was supposedly located inside the pole but we weren’t able to find it because it was gone.
Our last objective was located at "Happy Creek" and I was worried little bit because I thought it was going to be like "Fish’n Hole" and I hated that one since it was very difficult. However it wasn’t bad as I expected because Mr. Koch, our generous teacher, gave us a hint. The objective was located under the bridge and Sean Knick '12 was the one who found it and this was our last objective.
Geocaching wasn’t as easy as I expected because of the terrain. When the terrain was plain and simple it was easy, however when the terrain was rough like creeks and forest, it was hard to locate things. It was pretty fun and productive experience.
