Randolph-Macon Academy will be offering 3 Summer Programs this year, which will take place between Sunday, June 25 and Friday, July 21, 2023. Our Summer Programs include Middle School (Grades 6-8), Upper School (Grades 9-12), and Aviation Explorers (Grades 9-12).
We are pleased to offer in-person, on-campus instruction for your child at our Summer Program, in a safe learning environment. To ensure your child’s safety, all students and staff will wear face coverings and follow social distancing guidelines at all times.

Enrich Your Child’s Middle and Upper School Education
For students in both our Middle School and Upper School, R-MA’s Summer Programs offer the chance to build their knowledge and inspire their interest in a variety of subjects. Courses including English, Computer Science, Biology, World Religions, Modern World History, and United State History are available to your child during the summer.
Middle School Students Enjoy Access to:
- A Flight and Drones Summer Program, where they can fly one of our two Cessna aircraft and state-of-the-art drones
- R-MA’s Robotics program, where students learn to use LEGO MINDSTORM® EV3 software to code and complete missions
- A Study Skills class for your child to develop good study habits, as well as skills in note-taking, writing, researching, reading, and organization
- A mentoring program for students to learn safe digital practices, including privacy, security, and digital footprints
Upper School Students Can Benefit from:
- A wide range of elective options including Flight courses
- Transferable high school credits upon successful completion of the Summer Program
- Trips off-campus every Saturday, including trips to Washington DC and Shenandoah National Park, as well as bowling, movie theaters, and roller skating
Expanding Horizons With Our Aviation Explorers Programs
R-MA’s Aviation Explorers Program enjoys a reputation as one of our most popular summer programs for Grades 9-12. Your child will explore Drone Applications and Flight Training through excellent instruction both on the ground and in the air. This course offers a practical insight into a cutting-edge field of the modern world
Aviation Explorers Students Learn From:
- Drone Applications, which gives students experience using drones for 3D modeling, aerial photography, and advanced data collection
- Flight Training, allowing students to use aircraft and flight simulators to train in the air and on the ground while learning from industry professionals
- The use of two Cessna aircrafts, both of which are owned by R-MA, for dedicated flight time hours
- The opportunity to complete the FAA remote pilot (drone) certification
University Visits Summer Program
The University Visits program provides students with 4 unique college tours in the greater Washington DC metropolitan area. Students take an SAT Prep class (only available in this program) and one academic class for the entire 4-week program. In addition, students meet with the R-MA Academic Team on a weekly basis to discuss program progress with SAT classes and college application goals. Participants receive guidance on application mapping, essay selection and setting realistic expectations to ensure best practices for the upcoming school year. Students have full access to the R-MA campus and all available activities outside of the scheduled college tour schedule.
